Dialectical Behavior Therapy

What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful, evidence-based approach designed to help you manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop skills to cope with life’s challenges. DBT combines mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness techniques to help you gain control over overwhelming emotions and reactions. In a supportive, nonjudgmental environment, you'll learn to balance acceptance and change, helping you navigate difficult situations with greater ease. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, self-criticism, or relationship issues, DBT offers practical tools to manage emotional pain, set healthy boundaries, and build a life that feels meaningful. Through DBT, you'll develop a stronger sense of self and the skills necessary to thrive in any situation.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Emotional Regulation

I offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training in an individual format. The term "dialectical" comes from the idea of bringing together two opposites in therapy. A unique aspect of DBT is its focus on accepting your experience while balancing the work needed to change negative behaviors. DBT holds that we function best when we are able to integrate aspects from both ends of the spectrum.

There are 4 modules of DBT which include:

Mindfulness

Distress Tolerance

Emotional Regulation

Interpersonal Effectiveness

The combination of individual psychotherapy and DBT can help you learn how to regulate your emotions, develop mindfulness, and provide a safe context to learn new skills.
